In ancient Greece, the earliest records of cheesemaking can be found in Homer’s ‘Odyssey’ and more specifically to the myth of Cyclops Polyphemus who was the first manufacturer of feta cheese. The history describes that he used to transport the milk from his sheeps in lambskins of animals (or in livestock) until one day, he realized to his great surprise that the milk had curdled, taken a solid form shape and having nice taste. Since then, the cheese made from sheep’s or goat’s milk became an integral component of later Greek gastronomy. Today, feta is the most traditional consumed cheese in Greece and it is also one of the most widely exported Greek products. From the heart of Greece… on your table!
